Course Overview

CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction will allow you to develop the skills necessary to run a small to medium construction business. This certificate has been made for individuals looking to pursue a career within the building industry, or people seeking a change in career or re-entering the workforce.

Throughout this course you will learn about environmental management practices, safety and risk management, contracts, structural principles, managing projects and estimating and monitoring costs.

The strength of SITS College’ Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) lies within its flexibility to adapt content to cover industrial, residential and commercial low-medium rise construction with special attention to management techniques, project work and preparation and evaluation of tender documentation.

The construction industry strongly believes gaining the appropriate skillset and knowledge required for the industry will only occur with training and assessment that’s undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment. Therefore, this qualification requires all core units to be delivered in this context.

Completion of the General Induction Training Program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Successful completion of unit CPCCOHS1001A meets this requirement.

Participant Eligibility

For the purposes of eligibility under this Agreement, all Participants under this Program must meet the following criteria.

An Eligible Participant for this Program

MUST BE:

an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident; or
a Participant who has the right to work in Australia on a valid VISA prescribed by Construction Skills Queensland and who has been employed in the Building and Construction Industry for a period of 6 months or more, and is
an existing Eligible Worker in Queensland (refer to exceptions), or is
an unemployed Eligible Worker who has been unemployed for a period not greater than 6 months in Queensland.

MUST NOT BE:

an Apprentice or Trainee;
undertaking the Training as part of an Apprenticeship or Traineeship;
an Employee of an Authority (refer to exception);
currently enrolled and participating in a Queensland secondary school program;
a contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO;
funded by an Authority or such other source for delivery of the same Training being undertaken as part of this Program;
enrolled in more than one (1) Skill Set or Qualification (Building, Civil or Major Contractors) at a time in the same Program Delivery Period;
enrolled in a Skills Assessment and Gap Training Qualification in the same Program Delivery Period under either Building or Civil;
previously enrolled into the same or equivalent Qualification in an earlier Program term;
a Participant seeking a Verification of Competency.

EXCEPTIONS:

a Participant whose Employer is in the Building and Construction Industry, undertaking relevant clerical, administration and professional roles which are not ordinarily considered an Eligible Worker.

Eligibility Criteria:

Live or work in NSW (or meet an approved border-area requirement).
Be at least 15 years old.
No longer be at school (except approved home-schooled students).
Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, New Zealand Citizen, eligible humanitarian visa holder or eligible partner visa holder with a humanitarian sponsor.
Hold a valid USI.
