RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design

CRICOS CODE: 117536G

The Diploma of Civil Construction Design is a nationally recognised qualification aimed at individuals seeking to enhance their careers in civil construction. This extensive programme will engage you in various design and construction projects, encompassing residential and industrial buildings, as well as complex road designs and civil infrastructure systems.

At SITS, this programme will broaden your knowledge and skills in the design, development, and management of civil construction projects, which include structures, roadworks, drainage systems, and pipe networks. You will acquire practical experience and the technical proficiency necessary to address intricate engineering challenges in civil construction, covering all aspects from planning and design to overseeing repairs and enhancements.

This course equips you for a diverse array of positions within the civil engineering sector, such as civil designers, construction managers, and project coordinators, ensuring you are well-prepared to assume both leadership and technical roles in this evolving field.

Licensing/Regulatory Outcomes

Licencing, legislative, and certification requirements that apply to this qualification can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with the relevant body before applying for the qualification.

Your decision regarding further education should align with your professional aspirations. If your goal is to pursue a career in design or technical fields, obtaining a Bachelor of Civil Engineering or a Master’s in Engineering could be the most appropriate choice. Conversely, if your interests lie in project management, pursuing a Master of Project Management or an Advanced Diploma in Civil Construction may be more advantageous.

Additionally, it is important to take into account the licensure requirements, as certain positions may necessitate a formal engineering degree to qualify as a licenced engineer or to attain senior technical roles. This consideration can significantly influence your educational path.

If you find yourself uncertain about the best direction to take, consulting with a career counsellor, engaging with industry professionals, or researching the job market demand in your region can provide valuable insights to aid in your decision-making process.

After receiving your SITS diploma, you may consider the following options:

Diploma of Civil Construction Design (RII50520) → Bachelor of Civil Engineering → Master of Project Management.

Diploma of Civil Construction Design (RII50520) → Bachelor of Construction Management → Graduate Diploma of Urban Planning.

Diploma of Civil Construction Design (RII50520) → Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction → Master of Civil Engineering.

Qualification Package Entry Requirements

Prerequisite Qualifications: There are no formal prerequisites for this course.

Nevertheless, applicants are encouraged to possess prior knowledge or qualifications in related areas, such as a Certificate IV in Civil Construction or a Certificate III in Civil Construction. This background ensures that students have a solid understanding of civil construction processes prior to pursuing the diploma.

Pre-training Review:

SITS College has established policies aimed at removing obstacles in both learning and assessment, thereby ensuring that individuals with specific needs are enrolled in the most appropriate courses. The college is tasked with gathering comprehensive enrolment information as specified in the Enrolment Application Form and ensuring that participants are made aware of their unique learning requirements before they enrol.

As part of the enrolment process, a pre-training review will be carried out. This review evaluates the applicant's prior education, training, and work experience to ascertain whether there is a necessity to recognise existing competencies through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer for previous studies.

Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer approval will shorten the length of the course. Please refer to the Pre-Training Review Policy and Procedure.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN Test):

Applicants must complete an LLN test (Language, Literacy, and Numeracy test) and demonstrate the required ACSF (Australian Core Skills Framework) level for this qualification to be eligible for entry. The LLN test will be conducted alongside the pre-training review.

If an applicant does not meet the required standard on the LLN test, SITS College will provide appropriate support within its scope. However, if the necessary support exceeds the capabilities of SITS College, the applicant will be advised to undertake further language, literacy, and numeracy training (e.g., an ELICOS programme with another institution) at their own expense. SITS College will not charge any referral fees for this.

SITS College Admission Requirements:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or its equivalent is required. However, applicants are not obligated to submit proof of an English test score if any of the following conditions are met:
    • The applicant is a citizen and possesses a passport from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland.
    • The applicant is currently enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course offered in a language other than English, or a registered postgraduate research programme.
    • The applicant has completed a minimum of five years of education in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, the UK, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
    • Within the two years preceding the application for the student visa, the applicant has completed, in Australia and in English, either the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a significant portion of a course leading to a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework at the Certificate IV level or higher, while holding a student visa.

Admission to this course necessitates the successful completion of an Australian Year 12 qualification or its equivalent. All students must demonstrate the required Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) skills to gain entry into the course. The specific ACSF level required for admission will be communicated.
