The SITSS00069 Food Safety Supervision skill set provides the skills and knowledge required to handle food safely and comply with food safety regulations. This short course covers essential hygiene practices, food safety hazards, monitoring procedures, and the roles and responsibilities of a food safety supervisor. It is ideal for individuals working in food service, preparation, or retail settings where food safety is critical.

This course equips participants with nationally recognised competencies to meet food safety legal requirements and is especially relevant for businesses required by law to have a designated Food Safety Supervisor, such as cafés, restaurants, aged care facilities, childcare centres, and catering operations.

There are no formal prerequisites for this course. However, participants should possess basic foundational skills, including language, literacy, and numeracy, to complete the training and assessment requirements.

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • Government-issued photo identification must be provided upon enrolment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate food safety practices and instructions.
  • Capacity to interpret food safety programmes, workplace procedures, and complete documentation.

This course is designed for individuals seeking employment or currently working in roles that involve food handling and preparation, including:

  • Cafés and restaurants
  • Catering companies
  • Childcare centres and aged care facilities
  • Hotels, resorts, and function venues

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units:

  • SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITXFSA006 – Participate in safe food handling practices

While this skill set does not have a formal expiry, food safety regulations may vary across states and territories. It is recommended that food safety supervisors refresh their knowledge and training every five years or as required by local authorities.
