This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

There is no formal prerequisite for this course. However, it is recommended that participants have basic language, literacy, and numeracy skills to meet the performance requirements of the unit.
The required foundational skills are embedded within the performance criteria of this unit.
This unit is suitable for anyone who may be required to provide CPR in emergencies, including employees across various industries, childcare workers, teachers, fitness instructors, aged care workers, and members of the general public.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that this unit be renewed every 12 months to maintain CPR competency in line with current guidelines.
