When it comes to your career, no decision is easy. If you’re just starting out or are looking for a career change, finding out where to start can be tricky. But if you’re considering working in the building and construction industry, we have all the information you’re looking for!

Overview
If buildings interest you and you’re looking for a career that’s as dynamic as it is rewarding, you’re in the right place. The building industry is one of the fastest growing in Australia, thanks to continuous new residential and commercial projects. But what does this mean for you? Well, a never-ending list of career options. From a Builder to a Construction Manager, you can go down countless career paths!
But before you do that, you’ll have to be equipped with all the skills, knowledge and experience that employers look for. For the same, you’ll have to complete a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and soon you’ll be ready to work in the Building and Construction industry.
Here’s a brief of everything you need to do to ‘build’ a career in construction.
Getting Started- Select A Course
With the right qualification, you would have all the ins and outs of the job roles you plan to undertake and thrive in the industry. Some of the courses you could go for are;

Studying a carpentry qualification could open new doors to an exciting career in construction. You could start with this nationally recognised qualification in carpentry and step it up to higher level courses soon after. The Certificate III in Carpentry could make you a qualified carpenter and lay the groundwork of your career in construction. This course lasts for 52 weeks and will teach you in areas like handling carpentry materials, using carpentry tools and equipment, carrying out levelling operations, and many more. On the successful completion, you could gain valuable experience as a Carpenter and Joiner. Now you could study higher qualifications to move to better, more complex roles in the sector- for instance, a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building)

A Certificate IV in Building and Construction will give you the skills needed to get a building license. This course could take you one step higher and allow you to pursue roles like Construction Manager or Builder. You could also run a small to medium construction business within the industry. Throughout the course you’ll get specialised skills to work in multiple work contexts including residential, commercial and industrial.

The Diploma of Building and Construction will give you the skills needed to undertake supervisory roles to manage a wide range of building projects. Designed to meet the standards of the industry, the course focuses on the principles, regulations and techniques of the building sector. This is the perfect course for you if you are upskilling from a Certificate IV in Building and Construction, or even if you’re just starting. You’ll get hands on knowledge about supervising and applying quality standards to the selection of building and construction materials, applying structural principles to commercial low-rise constructions, applying site surveys, and much more.
